The Overflowing Measure — When You Give What Heaven Values
📖 “Give, and it will be
given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over,
will be poured into your lap.
For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” — Luke 6:38
1.
When Heaven Measures You by the Measure You Use
The Kingdom of God doesn’t operate
like this world. In heaven’s economy, you don’t gain by hoarding—you gain by giving.
You don’t advance by protecting your heart—you advance by opening it.
Jesus said these words in a context
that had nothing to do with money alone. He was teaching the radical values of
the Kingdom—the call to love enemies, bless those who curse you, forgive
without limit, and be merciful even when wronged.
He was unveiling a divine mystery: Whatever
you release determines what you receive.
If you release mercy, mercy flows back.
If you release love, love overflows into your lap.
If you release judgment, judgment returns multiplied.
Heaven doesn’t multiply your
possession; it multiplies your posture.
2.
The Silent Withholding of the Heart
Many of us have stopped giving—not
because we are selfish, but because we are wounded.
You once loved freely—but betrayal
built walls.
You once forgave easily—but the repeated offenses numbed you.
You once gave generously—but life’s disappointments taught you to hold back.
Now your hands are half-closed, your
heart is half-trusting, your mercy half-offered.
And yet, in this fragile state, the
Lord comes gently to whisper:
“If you will open your hands again,
I will open the heavens again.”
He is not demanding perfection; He
is inviting participation. The flow of blessing begins not when everything is
fixed, but when the heart chooses to trust again.
3.
The Kingdom Law of Release
Luke 6 is a treasury of kingdom
giving—an invitation to give what costs most:
a.
Give Love
“Love your enemies, do good to those
who hate you.” (Luke 6:27)
Love is the most dangerous form of
giving—it risks rejection. Yet it is the language heaven understands most
deeply.
When you love those who cannot repay
you, you are speaking the dialect of divinity.
You are echoing the Cross, where Love gave everything to those least deserving.
And when you release love, God
Himself becomes your defender. He watches the wounds you endured for love’s
sake and fills your life with love that cannot be taken away.
b.
Give Forgiveness
“Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”
(Luke 6:37)
Forgiveness is not weakness; it is
heaven’s strongest key.
Every time you forgive, you are declaring that your spirit will not be ruled by
offense but by grace.
When Joseph forgave his brothers—the
very ones who sold him—he unlocked not only reconciliation but also destiny.
His forgiveness became the door to Pharaoh’s throne room.
You may feel like your forgiveness
benefits others more than you, but heaven sees differently. Every time you let
go, heaven refills your cup.
c.
Give Mercy
“Be merciful, just as your Father is
merciful.” (Luke 6:36)
Mercy is not giving people what they
deserve—it’s giving them what God gave you: another chance.
Mercy transforms judgment into redemption. It turns enemies into testimonies.
And when you extend mercy, you draw
closer to the heart of your Father—because mercy is His native language.
d.
Give Generosity
“Give to everyone who asks you.”
(Luke 6:30)
Generosity is not about the size of
what you give, but the spirit behind it.
When Elijah asked the widow of Zarephath for her last meal, she gave what
looked foolish in human eyes—but that act of surrender opened a supernatural
provision that never ran dry (1 Kings 17:12–16).
You may be holding onto your “last
handful of flour” right now—emotionally, spiritually, financially. But hear
this:
Whatever you release by faith will
not run out; it will multiply.
4.
The Overflowing Measure
Jesus used an image familiar to His
audience: a merchant pouring grain into a customer’s measure.
A good measure meant it was filled completely.
Pressed down meant no air pockets—maximum fullness.
Shaken together meant even distribution—nothing wasted.
Running over meant more than enough—abundance spilling beyond capacity.
That’s how heaven gives back to you
when you give what He values.
He doesn’t just fill your cup; He presses, shakes, and runs it over until it
spills into every area of your life—peace overflowing into your fears, favor
overflowing into your limitations, joy overflowing into your sorrows.
5.
The Story of a Hidden Overflow
I once heard a story about a young
missionary who worked in an impoverished village. She had little—barely enough
to sustain herself. But whenever a child came hungry, she shared her meal.
Whenever someone needed shoes, she gave hers away.
Years later, when she fell ill and
was brought back home, the people she once served sent word across the sea.
They collected offerings—not in gold or silver—but in testimonies.
One wrote: “Because she gave her
meal, my son is alive.”
Another: “Because she forgave us when we mocked her, I found Christ.”
She never saw wealth return to her
hands, but heaven’s overflow had filled generations.
You may never see all the ways your
giving multiplies—but heaven counts what earth overlooks.
6.
Why Some Are Not Seeing the Overflow
There are seasons when you give love
and receive rejection, when you forgive and get hurt again, when you bless and are
misunderstood.
In those moments, the enemy
whispers: “Stop giving. Protect yourself.”
But if you stop giving, you stop
growing.
If you close your measure, heaven must close its flow—for the same measure you
use will be measured to you.
This is not punishment—it’s
principle.
Heaven mirrors the posture of your heart.
When you open your hand, heaven opens its storehouse.
7.
God’s Overflow Is Personal
The overflow of heaven doesn’t
always come in the same form you released it.
You may give forgiveness and receive peace.
You may give mercy and receive favor.
You may give generosity and receive healing.
The “measure” God pours into your
lap is not a repayment—it’s a reflection.
He doesn’t owe you; He overflows you.
Think of Job. He prayed for his
friends—the same ones who wounded him—and then the Lord restored double
what he had lost (Job 42:10).
His breakthrough came when he gave what heaven valued—intercession, mercy, and
love.
The same pattern remains: give,
and it shall be given.
8.
Prophetic Call — Open Your Hands Again
Beloved, heaven is calling you to
open your hands again.
Open them where betrayal closed them.
Open them where fear has tightened them.
Open them where disappointment made them tremble.
Because God is ready to pour
something new—something pressed down, shaken together, and running over.
But He waits for an open vessel.
Right now, as you read this, the
Spirit of the Lord whispers:
“Your measure is about to overflow.
What you released in pain will return in promise. What you gave in tears will
come back in joy.”
Don’t let yesterday’s losses dictate
today’s generosity. Give again—love again—forgive again—believe again. The
measure of your giving will become the measure of your glory.
9.
Practical Steps — Living the Overflow
- Choose Mercy Daily:
When you feel wronged, speak grace before you react.
- Forgive Before You Feel It: Say the words; healing will follow later.
- Bless in Secret:
Do unseen good; heaven takes public note.
- Ask for a Generous Spirit: Pray for the courage to release what you cling to.
- Expect Overflow in Unseen Ways: God may repay in peace, joy, favor, or restoration.
Keep your eyes on His character, not on the calendar.
10.
Prophetic Declaration
“Heaven remembers every seed you’ve
sown in love, mercy, and forgiveness.
The Lord says, ‘I am about to return it to you in full measure—pressed down,
shaken together, and running over.’
You will not end this season empty. The measure you used is about to become the
measure of your miracle.”
11.
Closing Prayer
Father,
You are the Giver who never runs dry. Teach me to live open-handed and
open-hearted.
Heal the places where I’ve withheld love, forgiveness, or generosity.
Let my life mirror Yours—a vessel that gives without fear and loves without
limits.
May the measure I use be mercy, and may my lap overflow with Your abundance.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
12.
Whisper for the Soul
“What you release will return. Open
your hands, and heaven will open over you.”
