From Shame to Glory
Promise verse: Joel 2:26
"You will eat and be satisfied, and bless the name of the Lord your God, who has given you abundantly in everything that He has done for you. and my people shall never be put to shame"
Introduction:
Have you ever found yourself at such a spot where all that surrounded you seemed to be breakable? When your efforts appeared as a waste, your heart felt empty? That was the condition of Israel at the time that this promise was made to Israel, through the prophet Joel. The land suffered from locusts, crops were lost, joy was dried and covered the people with shame.
But wait a minute! There comes this divine promise: My people shall not ever be ashamed.
Today, under the theme From Shame to Glory let’s open this hope filled verse.
1. God Satisfies the Hungry Soul
“…You shall eat and be full …”
This isn't just about food. God assures to fulfill each aspect of our life. When we are empty — emotionally, spiritually, relationally, He responds with more than enough.
• Psalms 107:9 indicates that, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness”.
• In John 6:35, Jesus declared that, “I am the bread of life”. He who comes to me shall not hunger…”.
God encounters us in our state of hunger and satisfy us until we are overflowing.
Application: In which sphere of your life, do you feel that it is lacking things? God is not only a survivalist god but also the god of fulfillment. He returns joy, peace, and purpose.
2. Be Grateful
…and bless the name of the Lord your God, who hath dealt wondrously with you.”
The filling by God automatically brings forth worship. We don’t give compliments out of obligation but give praises because of delight. We give thanks because we have the goodness of His experience.
Illustration: Hannah after her child was given to her. Her prayer, in 1 Samuel 2, is not a mere thank you prayer, it is a worship!
Application: When have you last actually praised God, not because you had to but for your heart was full of gratitude?
3. From Shame to Glory: A Divine Exchange
My people shall never be put to shame.
Shame is a powerful emotion. It alienates, cripples and scars severely. But God promises an exchange: shame for glory.
Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and falsely accused, imprisoned. However, God exalted him to a seat of honor in the Egypt.
-Genesis 50:20 – “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good”.
Prophetic Word: • Isaiah 61:7 – “Instead of your shame you shall receive double honour”’.
Application: You may have lived with shame for years – because of your past, failure or rejection. Shame is not how you complete in Christ. Glory is.
4. How to Enter God’s Promise
1. Return to God – Joel 2:12: Go back to Me and return with all of your heart. Repentance invites restoration.
2. His Word- put your faith in His promises being credible for you.
3. Walk in Identity – You people belong to God. You are not identified by your failures but His faithfulness.
4. Testify & Praise – don’t just receive. declare what He’s done!
Conclusion:
God is a Restorer. He satisfies. He heals. He lifts the heads of the people huddled down.
Your story is not over. Your past shame is not the last page. God’s word that is over you is this: “My people will not be ashamed”.
Final Prayer:
Dear Lord, I thank you for this strong promise. Thank You for satisfying my soul and for supplying every want. Erase every element of shame from my heart. Clothe me in Your glory. Make me live in joy and honor and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
