Let the Weak Say, “I Am Strong”
When You Feel Unqualified, Overwhelmed, or Spiritually Dry—This Is Your Wake-Up Call
(Inspired by Joel 3:10)
Some days you feel too worn out to show up.
Too weak to fight.
Too tired to care.
Yet something inside you whispers, “Don’t quit. Not yet.”
That whisper might just be divine.
In the Old Testament, God speaks through the prophet Joel with this powerful command:
“Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears; let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’”
—Joel 3:10
At first glance, it sounds like a call to war. But look deeper—it’s a call to transformation.
You’re in a Battle You Didn’t Choose
If you’ve ever led anything—a family, a team, a dream, or even yourself—you’ve probably felt the invisible war.
Not one of swords and shields, but one fought in the quiet corners of your mind:
-
Fear of failure
-
Insecurity masked by performance
-
Burnout that success can’t silence
-
Guilt from the past
-
A spiritual dryness no one else can see
These are the battles many of us are fighting—especially those who lead, create, care, or build.
Joel 3:10 doesn’t tell you to fake strength. It tells you to speak it into being.
To believe that your weakest place is the very ground where God’s power can rise.
What Are Your “Enemies” Today?
They may not have names like Pharaoh or Goliath.
But they exist:
-
That report you’re afraid to present
-
The silence in your prayer life
-
The project you no longer feel qualified to finish
-
The emotional weight no one sees but you still carry
Recognizing them is the first step. Not to fear them, but to prepare for them.
What Does “Putting on the Armor” Look Like Today?
Ephesians 6 talks about the armor of God—but in the noise of modern life, what does that look like?
Here’s what it might mean for you:
-
Belt of Truth → Being honest when pretending feels easier
-
Breastplate of Righteousness → Choosing integrity even when no one’s watching
-
Shoes of Peace → Stepping forward in calm when chaos hits
-
Shield of Faith → Trusting God's purpose when logic breaks down
-
Helmet of Salvation → Guarding your mind from toxic thoughts
-
Sword of the Spirit → Speaking God’s Word over your fears
This isn’t just spiritual language. It’s a real strategy for real life.
When Weakness Feels Like a Disqualification
You may think: I’m not strong enough for this.
And you’re right.
But here’s the deeper truth:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” —2 Corinthians 12:9
You’re not meant to lead alone. You’re meant to lead surrendered.
When weakness is offered to God, it becomes a tool of power, not a point of shame.
You don’t have to be the strongest in the room—just the most willing to let God strengthen you.
God Can Still Use You
Joel’s call is also a promise: You still have a role.
Even if you’re weary. Even if you’ve messed up. Even if you’re unsure where to go next.
He tells the weak to say they are strong—not because they feel it, but because He is near.
Like David, who defeated a giant though overlooked.
Like Paul, who changed the world with a thorn in his flesh.
Like you—yes, you—called to rise again.
A Quiet Commission
You’re not disqualified.
You’re being re-commissioned.
The very tools you thought were for digging—God is shaping into swords.
Your pruning hooks—the ordinary parts of your life—He’s turning into weapons of restoration and purpose.
So say it, even if your voice trembles:
“I am strong.”
Not because of me.
But because of Him.
A Soft Call to Reflect
-
What fear have you been calling “wisdom”?
-
What battle are you avoiding because you feel unqualified?
-
What tool in your hand might God be asking you to offer up?
Maybe today’s not about “feeling better.” Maybe it’s about declaring truth in the middle of the tension.
Let the weak say, “I am strong.”
God is ready to meet you right there.
