Treasures of the Heart — When God Restores the Wells Within

"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of." — Luke 6:45

Every human heart has a secret treasury. It is from this inner storehouse that life flows — blessing or curse, hope or despair. Jesus tells us plainly: the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

The Lord desires for us to have hearts filled with treasures of life, not bitterness. He longs to restore the wells of our soul so that the life that comes out of us reflects His goodness.

1. The Heart as a Treasury

Proverbs 4:23 instructs: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

The heart is not only the seat of emotions but the storehouse of spiritual treasures. A heart aligned with God’s Word produces words of blessing, wisdom, and encouragement. A heart corrupted by sin, resentment, or fear produces words of destruction and death.

Jesus emphasizes that the source of speech is the heart. When God restores the heart, He restores the life that flows from it.

2. Biblical Examples of Treasured Hearts

  • Joseph: Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and falsely accused, yet Joseph stored faith, forgiveness, and hope in his heart. His words later became life-giving when he told his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” (Genesis 50:20)
  • David: In the Psalms, David frequently chose to store praise and trust in God, even amid trials. Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” His heart of worship allowed his words to inspire generations.
  • King Jehoshaphat: Facing overwhelming enemies, he stored faith and dependence on God, and declared, “We will not fear…for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17) His words flowed from a heart aligned with God and brought victory.
  • Samaritan Woman at the Well: John 4 shows that her heart, once filled with shame and societal rejection, was transformed by Christ. She became a vessel of life, speaking the good news to her entire village, demonstrating that God’s restoration of the heart produces overflowing testimony.

These examples show that God measures not only our words but what we treasure inside. The life we live flows from what is stored within our hearts.

3. What Are You Storing?

Every heart is a storage room. Some store hope, faith, and Scripture. Others store wounds, unforgiveness, envy, and fear. And the contents of that storage inevitably shape what comes out of our mouths.

·        The tongue is not merely a tool of communication. It is a mirror of the soul.

·        A heart storing resentment cannot produce blessing.

·        A heart storing praise cannot produce cursing.

Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You.” This is the blueprint for a treasury of good: intentional storage of God’s truth, His promises, and His love.

Many believers, weary from life, are carrying debris from past wounds. Every careless word spoken, every bitter thought nurtured, every unspoken grief — these are filling your treasury with things God never intended.

4. The Prophetic Contrast — Good vs. Evil Storage

Jesus presents a clear spiritual principle:

  • Good treasure produces good fruit — words, actions, and influence aligned with God.
  • Evil treasure produces destruction — bitterness, envy, and sin manifesting in speech and deeds.

Psalm 51:10–12 reminds us to ask God: “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence…Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”

The Lord desires hearts that produce life-giving words. A stored heart of forgiveness, gratitude, and faith will naturally produce blessing.

5. The Restoration of Inner Wells

Many believers have hearts that were once good but have become polluted by disappointment, betrayal, or deferred hope. Here is the tender truth: God does not condemn what has been tainted by life. He restores.

Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4). Her inner well was dry, broken by relational pain and societal rejection. Yet when she encountered Christ, the same well that was once a source of shame became a spring of life, overflowing with testimony and blessing to her entire village.

Prophetically, God is saying to you: “I am reopening the wells that have been sealed by pain. I am cleansing the treasury of your soul. I am making your heart a storehouse of My goodness once more.”

You are not beyond restoration. The words that once wounded, complained, or accused can now flow with encouragement, prophecy, healing, and blessing.

6. Practical Steps to Store Up Good

God doesn’t only restore; He equips. You can intentionally fill your heart with treasures that produce life:

  1. Examine what is stored – Ask yourself, “What have I been storing? Bitterness? Fear? Or faith and hope?”
  2. Repent and release toxic deposits – Forgive, let go of envy, pride, and self-pity.
  3. Receive God’s Word afresh – Hide Scripture in your heart daily. Memorize verses of hope and life.
  4. Speak life deliberately – Each day, bless someone, affirm truth, and speak encouragement.
  5. Engage in worship – Praise is the detergent of the soul, washing away negativity and filling the treasury with God’s presence.

💧 As you do this, your heart becomes a reservoir from which rivers of life flow. The curse of bitterness is replaced by the blessing of God’s abundance.

7. Prophetic Word of Encouragement

Beloved, God is not measuring you by the words you spoke in pain. He is working in the hidden storage of your heart.

Ezekiel 36:26 whispers hope: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you.”

  • The Spirit is inviting you to allow heaven’s influence to cleanse your inner well.
  • The treasure that once bore despair can now birth prophecy, encouragement, and life-giving words to others.
  • You are not too far gone. The mouth that once spoke pain can now speak the very language of heaven.

Prophetic declaration: “Your heart will overflow with good things, and your words will become instruments of life. Every seed of bitterness will be uprooted; every well will spring with My Spirit. You will speak blessing, and heaven will answer.”

8. What Does God Expect of You Today?

  • Invite God to examine your heart before He expands your influence.
  • Make a deliberate choice to store up good things: gratitude, Scripture, intercession, kindness, and worship.
  • Speak life consciously — bless even when it’s hard.
  • Begin the restoration of your inner treasury, step by step, thought by thought, word by word.

Remember, what you store now will shape the world you influence tomorrow.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, cleanse the storeroom of my heart. Remove every deposit of pain, bitterness, and unbelief. Fill me with Your Word, Spirit, and love. Let my mouth become an overflow of heaven’s treasures. Teach me to speak life, not death; healing, not hurt. Make me a vessel that pours out Your goodness to those around me. Amen.
