Position Yourself for Heaven’s Overflow
God
Is a Giver
The world tells us that if you want
to survive, you must fight for yourself. You must strive harder, compete with
others, hold on tightly to what you have, and fear that there may not be
enough. From childhood we are trained in scarcity. We are told: “If you
don’t grab it, someone else will. If you don’t hoard it, you will be left
behind.”
But Jesus reveals a Kingdom that
operates by a different law. The Father does not run short of supply. He does
not give sparingly. His nature is generosity. He gives breath to the lungs of
every creature, He sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous, He fills
the earth with food, color, beauty, and light. Above all, He gave His only Son
for us — not when we were good, but while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8).
God is not reluctant. Heaven is not
closed. The Father delights to give. Jesus said, “Fear not, little flock,
for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke
12:32). The problem is never with the Giver. The problem is with the posture of
the receiver.
Many cry out, “Why does heaven
feel silent? Why do I feel empty?” But the Spirit whispers: “God wants
to give — but are you positioned to receive?”
In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus shows us
four postures that open the floodgates of heaven: Give, Hear, Ask, and Seek.
Each comes with a promise: “It shall be given unto you.”
Let us walk through these four
postures and hear what the Spirit is saying.
1.
GIVE → It Shall Be Given (Luke 6:38)
“Give, and it will be given to you.
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured
into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
Heaven begins with open hands. When
you give, God pours back into you — not sparingly, but abundantly. Jesus uses
the picture of grain being measured out: pressed down, shaken together to make
room, then running over. That is the picture of Kingdom overflow.
But “give” is not only about money.
It is about giving what your flesh resists:
- Give forgiveness where bitterness has grown.
- Give mercy where judgment feels easier.
- Give encouragement when you yourself feel discouraged.
- Give time and attention to someone who feels forgotten.
Jesus ties this directly to
forgiveness: “Forgive, and you will be forgiven” (Luke 6:37). “If you
forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also
forgive you” (Matthew 6:14).
Prophetically, many are praying for
breakthrough while holding others captive in chains of unforgiveness. Some are
asking for mercy while showing none. The Spirit says: “Release, and you will
be released.”
Think of Joseph in Egypt. He could
have clung to bitterness against his brothers, but instead he gave forgiveness.
And in giving, he received: restoration, reconciliation, and the fulfillment of
God’s dream.
Beloved, giving is not losing.
Giving is positioning yourself for heaven’s overflow. Closed fists cannot be
filled. Open hands can.
2.
HEAR → More Will Be Given (Luke 8:18)
“Therefore consider carefully how
you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what
they think they have will be taken from them.”
This verse comes after the Parable
of the Sower. God’s Word is the seed. The soil is our heart. Some hear
casually, and the devil snatches the Word away. Some hear emotionally, but with
no depth, and they quickly wither. Some hear, but the worries of life and the
deceitfulness of riches choke the Word. But those who hear with a good and
noble heart, who retain it and persevere, bear fruit a hundredfold (Luke 8:15).
Jesus’ warning is sobering: the
way you hear determines what you will be given.
- If you hear with reverence and obedience, heaven will
entrust you with more.
- If you treat God’s Word lightly, even the little
understanding you thought you had will fade.
James echoes this: “Do not merely
listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James
1:22). Revelation grows where obedience flows.
Prophetic word: Many are asking God
for new instructions while ignoring the last word He gave. Some say, “Lord,
speak to me!” while their Bible lies closed. Others cry, “Lord, guide
me!” while refusing to follow His clear commands already written.
Beloved, if you want more light,
walk in the light you already have. The Spirit says: “Obey what I have
spoken, and I will give you more. Treasure My Word, and I will multiply
revelation.”
Think of Abraham. God did not show
him the full map of his journey. He said, “Go to the land I will show you”
(Genesis 12:1). Each step of obedience opened the next instruction. When you
honor God’s Word today, He will give you tomorrow’s direction.
3.
ASK, SEEK, KNOCK → It Shall Be Given (Luke 11:9)
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be
given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to
you.”
Prayer is not begging from a
reluctant God. Prayer is the confident pursuit of a generous Father. Asking,
seeking, and knocking are not one-time actions but continuous — an invitation
to persistence.
James writes: “You do not have
because you do not ask God” (James 4:2). Jesus promises: “If you remain
in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done
for you” (John 15:7). And the Lord declares through Jeremiah: “Call to
me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not
know” (Jeremiah 33:3).
Some doors remain closed not because
God is unwilling, but because His children stopped knocking. Some prayers seem
unanswered because they were abandoned too quickly. Closed doors are not
denials — they are invitations.
Think of the Canaanite woman in
Matthew 15. She asked for her daughter’s healing. At first, she was met with
silence. Then with resistance. But she kept asking, she kept seeking, she kept
knocking. In the end, Jesus declared, “Woman, you have great faith! Your
request is granted.” Her persistence pulled down heaven’s answer.
Prophetic encouragement: Do not quit
in the hallway of unanswered prayers. The Father is not annoyed by your asking.
He delights in your seeking. He is moved by your knocking. Keep pressing. Keep
believing. Heaven’s assurance is clear: “It will be given.”
4.
SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM → All Things Will Be Given (Luke 12:31, NIV)
“But seek his kingdom, and these
things will be given to you as well.”
Here Jesus addresses our deepest
anxieties — what shall we eat, what shall we wear, how shall we survive? The
world runs after these things, chasing security like a mirage in the desert.
But the Father calls His children to a higher pursuit: the Kingdom.
When you seek His reign, His
righteousness, His mission — He takes responsibility for your needs. “But
seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be
given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).
David knew this: “The LORD is my
shepherd, I lack nothing” (Psalm 23:1). “Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).
Beloved, many are anxious because
their eyes are fixed on survival instead of surrender. But the Spirit whispers:
“Shift your pursuit. Chase My Kingdom, and you will find My provision
chasing you.”
Think of Solomon. When God appeared
to him in a dream, Solomon did not ask for wealth or long life. He asked for
wisdom to govern God’s people. And God said: “Since you have asked for this…
I will give you a wise and discerning heart… Moreover, I will give you what you
have not asked for — both wealth and honor” (1 Kings 3:11–13).
When you put the Kingdom first, the
Father adds “these things” as well.
Prophetic
Conclusion – Positioned for Overflow
Beloved, the Father longs to give.
His hands are full, ready to pour. But heaven waits for posture.
- Give,
and it shall be given to you.
- Hear
carefully, and more will be given.
- Ask, seek, knock,
and it will be given.
- Seek first His Kingdom, and all things will be given.
The law of the world is scarcity.
The law of heaven is overflow. The posture of your heart determines the measure
of His hand.
The Spirit calls today: “Open your
hands. Open your ears. Open your mouth. Open your heart. Position yourself for
heaven’s overflow. For the Father longs to give — pressed down, shaken
together, running over.”
Closing
Prayer
Father, I thank You that You are a
generous Giver. Forgive me for the times I have clutched instead of giving,
ignored Your Word instead of obeying, abandoned prayer instead of persisting,
or chased my needs instead of seeking Your Kingdom. Today, I open my hands to
release, I open my ears to listen, I open my mouth to ask, and I open my heart
to seek Your reign. Position me for overflow. Pour out what heaven longs to
give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Whisper
“When you give, hear, ask, and seek —
heaven responds: It shall be given unto you.”
